And the leaders of the Indian freedom movement including Jaiprakas Narayan and Ram Manohar Lohia were driven away overnight and cut the border. This incident, famous as the Hanumannagar jail break incident, has reached 82 years.
The place where the important event of the Indian independence movement and the anti-Rana movement in Nepal took place is now is in use by the individual .
At that time, the place where the attack took place was on the land of the Ward Hakim office . The remains of the Rana Kalin Garad and Jail are no longer here . After the death of policeman Mahendra Dev of Saptari Enwa, who was killed during the democratic revolution, the land where the police station and the office of the Ward Hakim are located was given to Dev's family by the immediate government. Debkai's family has been enjoying the land.
What was the Hanumannagar jail scandal?
India was ruled by the British. Jahanian Rana rule in Nepal. There was closeness between the Rana and the British. Those who talked about freedom in India had to eat the hand of the British ruler, while the ruler was becoming more cruel to stop the anti-Rana movement that had just started in Nepal. Shukraraj Shastri, Dharmabhakta Mathema, Gangalal and Dasharath Chand were hanged for being anti-Rana.
In India, the movement against the British Empire intensified. Indian Congress leaders such as Jayaprakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia and others reached different parts of India and gathered people's support in the movement and struggled against the British rule. At the same time, when Ram Manohar Lohia was planning to start a movement in Mumbai, the British arrested the socialist leader Jaiprakash Narayan.
He was kept in India's Hazaribagh jail. After Jaiprakash Narayan was arrested, the Indian freedom movement became somewhat relaxed. A challenge was added to the Indian protestors. They plan to get Jaiprakash Narayan out of jail anyway. But there was no success. A plan was made to perform drama in Hazaribagh Jail. Jaiprakash Narayan was chased away by other inmates with the help of a rope while rehearsing a play performed by inmates inside the prison. After his release from prison, the British government became more brutal against the freedom fighters.
After escaping from Hazaribagh Jail, Jayaprakash Narayan and Dr. who came to Vihar from Mumbai. Socialist leaders along with Lohia opened an organization called 'Azad Dasta' to take the Indian freedom movement to greater heights. After the Azad Dasta went ahead with the conclusion of a strong and armed movement against the British, their plan could not succeed by staying within the Indian borders. The pro-independence socialist leader decided to advance the independence movement by using Nepalese land in the border area.
They came to Koiladi Barsain in Saptari, taking with them the socialist leader Suraj Narayan Singh in Bihar. A meeting of socialist leaders was held in Barsain with Rameshwar Prasad Singh, Chaturanand Singh, Jaimangal Prasad Singh (Ramraja Prasad Singh's father) who were suppressing the then anti-Rana movement. Nepalese leaders promised to support the Indian freedom movement. After that, the Indian socialist leader thought of starting an anti-British movement by setting up a camp in Nepal.
They set up camp at Haldibari, near Laukhi in present-day Sunsari. After setting up a camp in Haldibari, the Indian leader searched for a place to train Azad Dasta soldiers for the armed movement.
They established a training center in Saptari's tunnel near Chure hill. After the lack of funds to run the training center, Bhaktapur landlord Dal Bahadur Prajapati started donating the money from his Kamat plantation at Khudibakhari in Saptari for the sustenance of freedom fighters.
And the anti-British movement started from Nepalese land. At first, the Rana rulers did not inquire much about the Indian socialists, but later on, after the request of the British rulers, the Rana rulers started to act harshly against them .
From the Haldibari camp, the leader of the Indian independence movement, Jayaprakash Narayan, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia along with Kartik Prasad Singh, Dr. Baijnath Jha, Brajkishore Shastri, Baba Shyamanandan were arrested. They were arrested and brought to Hanumannagar garath. At that time, the headquarters of Saptari was moved from Hanumannagar to Rajviraj, but the chief's office, Goswara and Garath were in Hanumannagar. After arresting the Indian socialist leaders, the Rana ruler planned to hand them over to the British. On the other hand, the British ruler was preparing to hang them in India.
After handing over the socialist leaders to the British, the freedom movement itself would be shocked, Indian leaders and the leaders of Koiladi and Barsain in Nepal, including Rameshwar Prasad Singh, Jaimangal Prasad Singh, Chaturanand Singh, Meen Bahadur Singh, planned to drive them out of jail .
In the year 2000, on the 9th of June at 12 o'clock in the night, a plan was made to drive away the Indian socialist leader by attacking the prison (Garath) in Hanumannagar. There was a daughter's wedding in the house of Rameshwar Prasad Singh of Barsain. As many people attended the wedding, Rana's intelligence could not get a clue about the Azad Dasta fighters .
Senior Advocate Himmat Singh, son of Rameshwar Prasad Singh, who sent the Azad Dasta fighters to attack the Khuwai Jail, said the food prepared for his sister's family. Armed attack by Azad Dasta on Garath (jail).
After setting fire to the straw bale next to the garath, the attention of the soldiers of the Rana regime was focused there, and the socialist leaders who were kept inside the garath, Jaiprakash Narayan, Dr. Azad Dasta succeeded in driving away Lohia. After being released from prison, Nepalese leaders sent them to India via Kosi. As a result, on 15 August 1947, India became independent from British rule.
After attacking Garth and driving away the Indian leaders, the Ranas became more cruel towards the pro-Nepal independence leaders . Around 200 people including Rameshwar Prasad Singh, Jaimangal Prasad Singh, Chaturanand Singh were arrested by the Rana regime from Saptari and taken to the Central Jail. Historian Pitambarlal Yadav's Abdul Mian and Krishnabir Kami of Saptari, who were in the central jail, died in captivity due to the torture of the Rana regime.
The first shot was fired against the Rana regime during the Hanumannagar jail scandal. When the Praja Parishad under the leadership of Tank Prasad Acharya was unable to carry out activities outside Kathmandu, the Hanumannagar scandal sparked anti-Rana agitation in Saptari and other districts.
The background of the anti-Rana movement was prepared after the Indian leaders were broken out of jail, this event provided a new consciousness and awareness to the democrats of Nepal, including the Saptari residents, to fight against Haru Rana . Advocate Singh feels that it is necessary to inquire more about this history connected with the Indian freedom movement.
