The government has appointed Vishwa Paudel as the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. Minister of Communications and Information Technology Prithvisubba Gurung informed that the meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Tuesday decided to appoint Poudel as the governor. With this decision of the government, Paudel has become the 18th governor.
The committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel recommended three names for the governor. The recommendation committee meeting held on Tuesday recommended the names of Vishwa Paudel, Neelam Dhungana Timsina and Dinesh Bhattarai. According to the recommendation, Paudel was appointed as the governor in the meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Tuesday.
With the end of the tenure of outgoing Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari, the post of Governor has been vacant in Rashtra Bank since March 25. As the appointment of the governor was expected to be delayed, the Ministry of Finance assigned the task of the Governor of Kamu to Deputy Governor Neelam Dhungana Timsina.
The appointment of the governor had become a complicated issue for the ruling party Congress and UML for two months. After the governor's recommendation committee was formed on March 11, two of its members resigned from different committees. Poudel appointed as governor Graduated in economics from America. He was also the former vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission. He is also a teacher of Kathmandu University and has experience of working as an economic consultant of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
In the House of Representatives election of 2079, he became a candidate from the Congress in Chitwan Region No. 1. In Chitwan-1, Hari Dhakal of RSVP won with 34 thousand 218 votes. UML candidate Surendra Pandey, who is in second place, got 26 thousand 608 votes. Poudel was in the third place and got 24 thousand 990 votes.
