The Commission of Inquiry into Disappeared Persons, which was established with the mission of "Truth, Facts, Justice and Reparation" has got an officer for the third term after almost three years.

This commission, which was formed to investigate persons who disappeared during the then rebel Maoist conflict, was without an officer since July 1, 2079. This commission, which is considered important in ending the conflict, was formed in 2071. Liladevi Gadtaula, the newly appointed chairperson of the

commission, talking after assuming office in the office at Bhadrakali, said that the work will be carried out on the basis of collective responsibility, focusing on the issue of getting justice to the victims in accordance with the meaning and spirit of transitional justice.

She said, 'Since it is the responsibility of team work, the rest of the work will be carried out based on the opinion, consultation and advice of the members and experts, every possible effort will be made to remove the challenges that may arise in the execution of the commission's work and to move forward and fulfill the responsibility.'

Commission members Gopalnath Yogi (Salyan), Agni Prasad Thapalia (Jhapa), Srijan Pokharel (Kathmandu) and Vinita Nepali (Kaski) also resumed their posts today. His tenure will be four years after being sworn in by the Chief Justice today.

The commission was formed with the aim of finding out the truth about the persons who disappeared during the ten-year armed conflict that began on February 1, 2052. The commission has a mandate to investigate the disappearances, make up for it, and give a report with suggestions on the steps to be taken by the state to prevent such conflicts from recurring in the future.

The armed conflict between the state side and the then Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) from February 1, 2052 to November 5, 2063 ended after a detailed peace agreement was signed on November 5, 2063.

The government appointed an official on the 30th of Baisakh in the inquiry and truth and reconciliation commission related to the transitional justice.

According to Kaviraj Paudel, spokesperson of the commission, 3,288 complaints were filed with the commission. Out of that 746 are Tameli, Farkhyat and Farfarak. Two thousand 543 applications are still pending in the commission. It is claimed that 2,547 people are missing.

There is a provision in the Commission that within three months of the appointment of a new official, if for any reason or circumstances beyond his control, he missed filing a complaint in the past, he can file a petition with the basis and reason.
