Social security allowance for senior citizens above 68 years from the next financial year: Minister Sudi

Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Nawalkishore Shah Sudy has informed that social security allowance will be provided to senior citizens above the age of 68 from the next financial year.

In today's meeting of the House of Representatives, while answering an oral question related to the ministry, Minister Sudi informed that since the year 2082/83, it is going to increase its area to provide social security allowance to senior citizens above 68 years of age. According to the budget statement of the year 2079/80, social security allowance is currently being provided to senior citizens of the age group of 70 years under the social security program.

In Section 4 of the Social Security Act, 2075, Dalits and single women senior citizens will receive senior citizens' allowance as prescribed by the government as social security allowance after reaching the age of 60 years and other senior citizens after reaching the age of 70 years. Answering the question of MP Prem Suwal in the

meeting, Minister Sudi pointed out the need to effectively implement the policy of mobilizing the support received through NGOs through the Social Welfare Council through a single door system. He has informed Nepal Rastra Bank that the number of organizations coming under the scope of the council is increasing since they have been requested to facilitate the mobilization of funds only for the projects that have received the approval of the council. However, he mentioned that non-governmental organizations could not come to the process completely.

According to Minister Sudi, projects run by national non-governmental organizations in the year 2080/81, 2,084 projects of 1,304 organizations were in operation. Similarly, 1 thousand 833 projects of 1 thousand 324 institutions have been approved till the end of March of the current year. In the last year, 44 international non-governmental organizations have signed project agreements and up to Baisakh of the current year, 20 international non-governmental organizations have signed project agreements.

Minister Sudi has informed the House that Dalit families including Magain Sada and Chandra Sada of Shambhunath Municipality-3 Kachandaha in Saptari do not have citizenship even at the age of 72 years and other facilities such as senior citizen allowance are not available from the state.

'The reason why this person can't get the allowance is because he doesn't have a citizenship certificate. "There is a legal provision that people who do not have a citizenship certificate cannot get a social security card," he said.

Before that, Speaker Devraj Ghimire read out the details of the letter received from the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
