Nepal has been awarded by the World Health Organization for its significant contribution in tobacco control. On the occasion of the World Anti-Tobacco Day, the Ministry of Health and Population of Nepal has received the Director General's Special Honor Award for the year 2025.

During the 78th meeting of the World Health Organization, Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus presented the award to Health and Population Minister Pradeep Poudel. According to the organization, this year, the Ministry of Health and Population of Nepal was awarded while awarding individuals and organizations that have made extraordinary contributions to tobacco control every year.

Minister Paudel made a decision regarding the arrangement to publish 100 percent warning notices on the front and back of tobacco products. Now this decision will be implemented. The World Health Organization has called this decision of the Government of Nepal an extraordinary contribution.
