Congress MP Manju Khan has been selected as the sub-committee coordinator of the Public Accounts Committee under the House of Representatives formed to investigate the errors, irregularities and corruption during the construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport located in Bhairahawa.
Ekram Giri, Secretary of the Committee and Spokesperson of the Parliament Secretariat, informed that the meeting of the sub-committee held on Sunday decided to select Khan as coordinator. The
sub-committee consists of UML's Yogesh Bhattarai, Saraj Ahmed Farooqui and Achyut Prasad Mainali, Congress's Shyamkumar Ghimire and Manju Khan, RSVP's Manish Jha, RPP's Vikram Pandey and independent MP Amresh Kumar Singh .
Earlier, the coordinator of the said sub-committee was Yogesh Bhattarai, MP of the UML leading the government and former Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. The question was raised after the sub-committee led by him prepared a preliminary report without investigating the corruption and irregularities during the construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa, Rupandehi. Bhattarai announced that he would not sit in that responsibility after questions were raised about him as
sub-committee coordinator. The Public Accounts Committee formed a sub-committee to study and monitor the on-site study and monitoring of the Gautam Buddha International Airport, Bhairahawa, which was completed as a project of national pride on 27th June 2081. On the same day, a sub-committee was formed to investigate irregularities and corruption during the construction of Pokhara International Airport under the coordination of RPP MP Rajendra Lingden.
The sub-committee led by Lingden has submitted a report to the Accounts Committee with the conclusion that at least 10 billion was involved in corruption during the construction of Pokhara Airport.
The sub-committee formed to investigate Gautam Budh Airport had prepared its preliminary report. The sub-committee has heard a complaint that there is an error in the construction of the airport, so what is the situation in that regard? How was the land management related to the determination and distribution of land compensation? In the preliminary report, the objective of the sub-committee is written ? And what other challenges and problems are there to operate the airport as an international airport? It was asked to investigate the questions, etc. But the sub-committee did not enter these matters.
23 billion rupees compensation was distributed to about 2200 households for the expansion of Gautam Buddha International Airport. The investment of construction of Gautam Budh Airport was initially estimated at 6.22 billion, but by the time it was completed, it had increased to 8.82 billion. The main question has been raised that there is irregularity in land acquisition at this airport.
It is not certain how the investigation will proceed after the mining sub-committee is the coordinator.
