25-point 'Call to Action' ended with Everest dialogue

The Everest dialogue organized for the first time by the Nepal government has been completed today with the release of 25-point 'Everest Action Call'. The first edition of the topic 'Climate change, mountains and the future of mankind' started from Friday.

The Everest Call to Action reaffirms the imperative to limit the global average temperature rise to more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by strengthening partnerships to ensure a sustainable future. It is mentioned that the development and implementation of national adaptation plans will be further encouraged to meet the specific adaptation needs of their countries, and calls will be made to increase and mobilize international financial assistance for the implementation of climate action in developing countries and countries in special situations.  The

dialogue calls for collective efforts to ensure equitable and simplified access to international climate finance for developing and climate-vulnerable countries from bilateral, multilateral and alternative sources, including the operating bodies of financial mechanisms and funds under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement.

It is mentioned in the Everest Action Call to support the call to establish a dedicated fund for the development of mountain countries to mobilize targeted financial resources for climate action and sustainable development in mountainous areas and to give priority to the recognition, respect and awarding of mountain ecosystem services using existing and innovative financial resources.

The dialogue concludes by emphasizing the role of private sector finance and carbon markets in promoting sustainable climate action, facilitating access to climate-friendly technologies and strengthening global and regional partnerships to enhance capacity. The

dialogue acknowledges the importance of promoting green, resilient and inclusive development from small to large-scale infrastructure in both rural and urban communities, emphasizing the importance of clean energy, energy efficiency and equitable energy, powering the future through clean energy as well as a green, circular and bio-economy.

The call mentions promoting solutions based on science, technology and innovation to address climate-related disasters and protect glaciers, water resources, forests and agricultural systems.

'We encourage dialogue on mountains and climate change agenda with a special focus on the triple planetary crisis and short-term climate pollutants that have a deep impact on regional climate, monsoon, cryosphere and public health. We acknowledge the urgency of strengthening data systems in line with the needs of developing countries, ensuring data sharing and interoperability, and developing climate attribution and early warning mechanisms,' Satharmatha's call for action states.

It is mentioned in the call to promote inclusive climate actions through the active participation of children, youth, women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens and maintain gender balance while maintaining inter-generational and intra-generational equality.

With the aim of elevating the voice of mountain communities in the global climate process, a multi-stakeholder international forum on mountains and climate change has been called for dialogue, innovation and empowerment.  The

call says, 'We acknowledge the role of local and indigenous communities in climate policies, programs and actions, including adaptation and conservation initiatives. We call for emphasizing the need to develop mechanisms for payment for environmental services and enabling the adoption of innovative climate finance.' The need to develop

knowledge centers, share best practices and increase the role of local communities in climate policies, programs and actions is emphasized. It has been resolved to create a common voice for urgent climate action in the dialogue, which will resonate from Mount Everest to the sea and from the highlands to the islands.
