37-year-old Pemba Sherpa, a kidney transplant recipient, has set a record by climbing Mount Everest. He from Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality of Solukhumbu stepped on the peak of Mount Everest at 9:30 am on Wednesday.
According to Pemba Gyalje Sherpa, managing director of Expedition High Mountain Treks, which has given Pemba the chance to climb Mt. Everest, there is no record of a person with a kidney transplant having climbed Mt. "Pemba is the first kidney transplant recipient to climb Mount Everest," he said.
record holder Pemba has already submitted the form to 'Guinness World Records' before climbing, managing director Galje informed. Climber Pemba has descended to the base camp at an altitude of 5200 meters on Friday.
Pemba Sherpa is not a tourism professional. He studied lama in a monastery. "Pemba and I used to study lama together when we were little. Later, both of us could not continue our studies," said Galje, Managing Director of Expedition High Mountain. "Later I came into the tourism business. Pemba has gone to Dubai. Spent 5 years there. He spent 5 years in Japan again. When he came to Nepal during the time of covid, he found out that both kidneys had failed.
Pemba was given a kidney transplant given by his father Ang Galzen Sherpa. Pemba, who lives in Gokarna, Kathmandu with two children and a wife, is a Japanese language instructor.
Tourism Department has not received official information about Pemba's record. "Those who climb Mount Everest for records give formal information to the department, but information about them has not been received," said an officer of the department in the Khumbu region to Kantipur.
The Department of Tourism has given permission to 1,168 people from 73 countries to climb the mountains this spring. There are 468 people who are allowed to climb Mount Everest.
