We have successfully completed two important sessions of the inaugural session of the Everest Dialogue: Foreign Minister Rana

Foreign Minister Arju Rana has said that the first two important sessions of the inaugural session of 'Sagarmata Dialogue 2025' have been successfully completed.

The Everest Dialogue which started on Friday (June 2) in Kathmandu will be conducted till Sunday. On the first day of the dialogue, the opening session and the main theme of 'Climate Change, Mountain and Future of Humanity' ie 'Climate Change, Mountains and Human Future', the ministers of Nepal, invited foreign ministers and representatives of organizations gave their views. 

'This was the formal program of the Everest Dialogue. Where the Prime Minister also addressed, she said, "On the first day of the first edition, we have completed two important dialogues." The participants in the two sessions of the dialogue expressed their commitment to Nepal on climate change, she said. Minister Rana gave this information at a press conference held in the midst of 'Sagarmatha Samvad 2025' which started from Friday. 

'Our whole life is connected with the mountains . The President of COP 29 shed light on various aspects of climate change. Also told about the achievements of COP 29, she said. In the opening session of the

dialogue, National People's Congress Standing Committee Vice President Xiao Jie from China, Environment, Forestry and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav from India and Mukhtar Babayev, President of COP-29 and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, expressed their wishes and their views on climate change. Likewise, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres addressed the dialogue through video. Minister Rana said that Secretary General Guterres had given a message about what is happening in the Himalayan region.

Nepal's Minister of Forests and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, Bhutan's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Jem Chiring, Bangladesh's Ministry of Social Welfare and Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs Advisor Sharmin Soneya Murshid, British Parliamentary Minister of State Baroness Susan Heyman, Japan's Parliamentary Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Ekuina Akio, Additional Secretary of India Amandeep Garg, Qatar's Special Envoy on Climate Change and Minister of Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Bader Omar Al Dafa, Special Representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan Dinara Kemelova, Ambassador of Brazil to Nepal Carlos Alberto Mikaelsen den Hartog, Ambassador of Egypt to Nepal Noha Hamdi Ahmed Elgebali, Ambassador of Oman to India Issa bin Saleh Al Shibani and Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal Abrar H Hashmi expressed their statements and commitments regarding climate change.

Similarly, representatives of national and international organizations gave their views in that session. Representatives of participating Middle East Asian countries have also expressed their commitment. Even those countries where there are no mountains have expressed their commitment regarding climate change, said Foreign Minister Rana. On the first day of the

dialogue, four parallel sessions were conducted on the theme of Theme 1: Beyond Mountains: Linking Mountains to Ocean. 

Parallel Session 1: Urgency of 1.5 Degree Ambition for Preservation of Glaciers, Parallel Session 2: Connecting Highlands to Islands, Parallel Session 3: Food Security and Climate Change Resilient Agriculture and Parallel Session 4: Community-Led Climate Initiatives in the Mountains will be discussed.
