India and Pakistan, which have been attacking each other since Wednesday morning over the Pahalgam incident, have finally agreed to a ceasefire. The agreement to stop fighting was reached after a telephonic conversation between the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of both countries on Saturday.
According to India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, the military officials of both the countries had a conversation at 3:50 PM Nepali time on Saturday. In a press conference held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 6:00 p.m., Secretary Misri informed that both sides have agreed to stop firing and military operations on land, air and sea from 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and to hold talks on a neutral land. He said that both sides have instructed their subordinates to implement the agreement to stop military operations. According to Misri, the next meeting between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan will be held on Monday at 12 noon.
India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also posted on the social network "X" and mentioned that India and Pakistan have agreed to stop military operations. Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed it on social media. Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. "Pakistan has always been trying to maintain peace and security in the region without compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity," he wrote in 'X'.
The United States mediated a ceasefire between the two nuclear countries of South Asia, India and Pakistan. US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio disclosed this through social media. The ceasefire was first announced by US President Trump. He wrote in 'Truth Social', 'After overnight mediation by the US, I am happy to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full ceasefire with immediate effect. Congratulations to both countries for showing wisdom and wisdom.'
US Secretary of State Rubio also wrote on social media that India and Pakistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire after intensive US diplomatic efforts. "Over the past 48 hours, Vice President JD Vance and I have held discussions with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shahbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister (India) Jaishankar, Army Chief Asim Munir (Pakistan), National Security Advisers Ajit Doval (India) and Asim Malik (Pakistan)," he wrote in the X. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has thanked US President Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Foreign Minister Rubio for their initiative for a ceasefire. He wrote in 'X', "Pakistan has accepted this in the interest of regional peace and stability."
26 tourists, including a Nepali, were killed in an attack by a terrorist group on April 22 in Pahalgam in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Soon after the incident, India canceled visas for Pakistanis and suspended the Indus Water Treaty. Diplomatic officials attached to Pakistani security in Delhi were asked to leave India. In response, Pakistan also closed its air routes for Indian ships and instructed Indian diplomats to leave the country.

The Indian side has confirmed that a government official of the Jammu-Kashmir administration was killed in the firing by Pakistan on Saturday.
Even though both countries announced that they have agreed on a ceasefire, the media mentioned that an explosion was heard in the Indian-administered Srinagar on Saturday evening. The video of the airstrike was uploaded by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on X. As soon as the blasts started, a 'blackout' was imposed in some parts of bordering India. On Saturday night, the media reported that there were drone attacks and shelling on both sides.
In New Delhi, Foreign Secretary Misri held a press conference after 11:00 pm and stated that the violation of the agreement was taken seriously within a few hours. He also mentioned that the Indian security forces are giving a befitting reply. He also asked Pakistan to address the situation with seriousness and responsibility.
