If 50 meters are left from the river bank, there will be no houses left in Kathmandu: Prime Minister Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that if 50 meters are left from the river bank, there will be no houses left in Kathmandu. Prime Minister Oli said this while answering questions raised by MPs on policies and programs in the House of Representatives on Sunday.

Prime Minister Oli is questioning how many houses should be demolished to make 20 meters. He said that special consideration should be given to whether the government can give him compensation.

The Council of Ministers had decided on November 1, 2065 that structures could not be built within 20 meters of the Wagmati, Bishnumati and Manohara shores. Kathmandu Metropolitan City said that the Supreme Court's order will be implemented. In 2064, the Kathmandu Valley City Development Committee prepared standards regarding construction on the banks of rivers in the valley.

On that basis, on November 1, 2065, the Council of Ministers decided that construction work should be done by maintaining a right-left distance from the side where the survey map of the river is maintained. In the decision of the cabinet, it was mentioned that 20 meters on the banks of Wagmati, Bishnumati river and Manohara river, 12 meters in Nakhkhu river, 10 meters in Balkhu Karmanasa, Koiku, Sangle and Mahadev rivers, 9 meters in others and 6 meters in Karkhusi river.
