'Danger of dengue infection in the next 15-20 days'

Due to the rains, the risk of dengue infection may increase, so caution has been requested. Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, head of the Insect Disease Branch of the Epidemiology and Communicable Disease Control Division of the Ministry of Health and Population, urged people to be cautious as there is a danger of increased dengue infection due to accumulated water.

When water accumulates, dengue-carrying mosquitoes develop in it. It takes 15 to 20 days for this. Therefore, there is a danger of dengue infection for the next 15 to 20 days, he said.

Mosquitoes of 'Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus' species bloom in places where water freezes. Larvae emerge from those flowers and when the same larvae become adults, they bite humans and get dengue disease. Dr. Dahal, head of the

branch, said that 35 local levels that had many dengue infections last year have been contacted to prevent and control the infection. According to him, 968 people have been infected since December 17. In 2024, 41 thousand 865 people were infected and 15 people died when dengue infection spread in 76 districts of the country.
