Parliamentarians of the Parliament's Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs Committee have suggested sending domestic female workers to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) only after guaranteeing security.

They emphasized that the provision of sending domestic workers should be brought within the legal scope while giving suggestions on the 'Draft on Sending Domestic Female Workers to the UAE as a Pilot Project' submitted to the committee by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security.

Labor Minister Sharatsingh Bhandari said that the process of sending domestic workers to the UAE as a pilot project has been carried forward in accordance with the instructions given by the parliamentary committee to make domestic workers orderly, dignified and safe. It is because of this prohibition that women are going to the Gulf region to do domestic work through illegal routes. This committee has submitted a study report on Oman and UAE.  A bilateral agreement and a protocol on domestic workers have already been signed with the UAE,' Labor Minister Bhandari said in a parliamentary committee meeting, 'Comparatively, it seems more secure with the UAE. According to the instructions of the committee, the Ministry of Labor has advanced the protocol of the pilot project.

The Ministry of Labor has discussed with the UAE and prepared a draft and submitted it to the committee. Labor Minister Bhandari said that an agreement has been reached with the UAE based on the instructions given by the committee to ensure the safety of domestic workers. According to him, 5,000 women workers will be sent as a pilot project in the first phase. The minimum salary of domestic workers is set at 400 dollars. Insurance has been arranged for 24 hours," he said, "Domestic workers do not stay at home. Arrangements have been made to stay in the hostel. He said that the cost will be the responsibility of all employers. In the

meeting, Foreign Secretary Amrit Kumar Rai said that it is necessary to send domestic workers through legal means. He said that sending domestic workers as a pilot project has been given a positive opinion. There is a ban on women going to the Gulf as domestic workers. But a large number are working . It is necessary to organize the domestic workers, he said.

MP Lal Prasad Sawan Limbu said that more than 66 thousand women are working as domestic workers in the UAE. "Despite the government's ban, women are still using Nepal's airport as domestic workers. Immigration will stop women from going if there is a slight protest. Then it will be relaxed again,' he said in the meeting, 'It is very important to manage the issue of going to work at home.'

MP Raju Thapa accused the government of not being able to control the illegal departure of domestic workers. "Now the sheep and goats are going". They are under economic and mental exploitation," he said. "It is appropriate to send them to the pilot project with the UAE. Let's not delay the matter of sending it in an orderly manner.'
