Congress MP Maya Rai, who was arrested in the case of cooperative fraud and organized crime, has been detained for five more days and the deadline for investigation has been extended.

District Court Judge Padmaraj Pandey's Ijalas granted the extension on Friday. Spokesman of District Police Complex Kathmandu, SP Apelraj Bohra informed that the Kathmandu District Court has given a five-day detention period for investigation.

MP Rai was arrested from her house in Kapan on Baisakh 13. Rai was recommended to be prosecuted on charges of embezzlement of Swarnalakshmi Savings and Credit Cooperative Society in Kalimati. She was working as joint secretary in the board of directors of the cooperative. It is alleged that people including Rai have embezzled billions of rupees from 690 savers.
