12 sessions and three 'plenary' programs on 5 topics related to climate change
According to the government, the preparations for the 'Sagarmatha Samvad 2025', which is to be organized to attract the attention of the international community to the impact of climate change on the Himalayan region, have reached the final stage.
The main theme of the Everest Dialogue to be held in Kathmandu on May 2, 3 and 4 is 'Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity'. In the three-day Everest Dialogue, 12 sessions and three 'plenary' programs will be held on 5 topics related to climate change. Lok Bahadur Paudel Chhetri, joint secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and member of Everest Dialogue Secretariat, informed that 300 foreign guests have been invited to participate in the
dialogue. Many stages of preparation have been completed. But there is still important work to be done," he said. "Also, we have invited many guests to participate in the dialogue. While some have accepted, the process of accepting invitations is continuing.
He said that all arrangements have been made for the invited guests to present their topics through the plenary. "What we can expect from this is that all countries get to speak here," he added. It will be an opportunity to learn and teach each other.'
Mandatory registration in 'Sagarmatha Samvad App' In order to participate in the
program, 'Sagarmatha Samvad App' must be registered. For that, at first you have to fill the form through Google link . The time for media to fill the form through the link is till 22 Baisakh. In the
link, you have to upload your name, working organization, email, press representative and your photo . The uploaded documents will be authenticated by the Media Viewing Committee of the Dialogue Secretariat and the app link will be sent to the concerned person's email address.
It is said that the app can be downloaded only after getting this link. However, the secretariat said that this feature is available only for Apple users. It is said that the Samvad Secretariat has submitted an application for permission to download the app for Android users as well.
Namraj Ghimire, Joint Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and a member of the Communication Secretariat, said that the app was used to encourage digital practices to reduce the use of plastic and paper.
Secretariat said that due to security standards, the number of foreign participants, names, and details of speakers are not made public now.
The Everest Dialogue is being organized to raise the issue of climate change and for Nepal to play a leading role on behalf of the mountainous country. The program, which was stopped at the final stage due to covid-19, is about to take place after about 5 years . It is said that Nepal will invite island nations, neighboring countries, heads of state, heads of government, forest ministers, experts, development partners, etc. to the
dialogue. On the last day of the
dialogue, the government is preparing to publish the Kathmandu Declaration covering the topics discussed in the Everest Dialogue. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced the Everest dialogue on January 8 in the presence of ambassadors, representatives of international missions and development partners.
