Congress leader and former Minister of State for Health Theerthram Dangol passed away on Friday night. Dangol, who was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and kidney for a long time, passed away at KMC Hospital in Sinamangal, according to his family sources.
Born in Kathmandu in 2004, the 77-year-old Dangol became the treasurer and district chairman of Congress Kathmandu and the former deputy chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Dangol, who introduced himself as a militant leader in Nepali politics, was deployed as a commander in Kathmandu during the 2062/63 mass movement.
He has a wife. The trust established in his name has been awarding awards to personalities who have contributed to education, journalism and Nepali language every year.
According to Newari tradition, he was cremated today at Chinta Manighat in Teku Dobhan. His wife Tej Maya and brother Balram Dangol lit the funeral pyre. Nepali Congress leaders and workers, relatives and well-wishers were present at the funeral. Prior to the funeral, his body was kept at the party central office for homage from 11 am to 1 pm. On that occasion, Congress General Minister Gagan Thapa, former General Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Shashank Koirala and Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Mansingh, Central Member and Home Minister Ramesh Ukhar, Deputy Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol and others paid their respects.
Dangol's companions and well-wishers have responded that he is fearless and loyal to the truth. His fellow traveler and former minister Bhimsendas Pradhan reminded the top leaders to rise above groupism, nepotism and nepotism when the party leader maintained a mindset of looking for our people rather than the best despite the establishment of a federal democratic republic in the country.
Member of the National Assembly Anjan Shakya responded that the Nepali Congress and the country have lost a skilled, honest and loyal leader due to the death of former state minister Dangol.
