The father, who went to the teacher's protest, did not know that his wife, children and son-in-law were visiting, and suddenly heard the news of death.
Sudeep Neupane, a 27-year-old Nepali youth who was killed in a militant attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India, was visiting with his mother, sister and son-in-law. He hails from Butwal-14 Belvaria and was living near Horizon Chowk in Butwal-11 Kalikanagar for the last 4 years.
He was living with his mother and sister Sushma for 4 years after his father Dhruv (Kaushal) and mother Reema divorced.
After his sister's marriage in Pokhara 2 years ago, he was the only mother at home, although he was studying B.D.H. in Kathmandu, Sudeep kept going around the house. He graduated in Public Health from Dharan. Now he was studying BPH in Kathmandu.
During his BPH studies, he was working on an oral health campaign project in collaboration with Butwal's Modern Society Dental. He came to Butwal on Thursday to arrange a meeting with his sister Sushma and son-in-law Ujjwal Kafle from Pokhara in addition to the work of the same project.
Just after coming to Butwal, the four members of the family planned to visit Kashmir on Saturday and accordingly they went according to Sudeep's uncle Dadhiram Neupane, the ward president of Butwal sub-metropolitan city-14.
'Mother was alone at home, so she used to come and go, this time she came home on Thursday,' says Ward President Neupane, 'On Saturday four people went out for a walk.' He also says that Sudeep told others about the plan.
According to Amrit Bhusal, owner of Modern Samaj Dental, Sudeep had been working in Pyuthan, Butwal, Bhairahawa and other places with oral health campaign. "For the last 8/9 months, he has been working with our project on oral health campaigns for the underprivileged in rural areas," he says. It was in Sudeep.' Bhusa narrated that Sudeep has been expressing the opinion that he should introduce himself through social service.
After Sudeep's death, Butwal-11 Mankamana Path near Horizon Chowk is in mourning. Neighbor Rajendra Kumar Acharya said that the death of Sudeep, who was sociable and equanimous, has plunged everyone into grief.
"Heard we went on a family outing," he says, "Suddenly heard the news of his death." Sudeep's father Dhruv (Kaushal) is a teacher by profession. He teaches at the basic level at Bhawanipur High School in Butwal-18. He was in the ongoing teachers' movement in Kathmandu. Dhruv used to live with his other wife in Belvaria's house. After the divorce, son Sudeep and daughter Sushma were living with their mother Reema.
Babu Dhruv says that he suddenly got information about the incident from social media as they do not have regular conversations. "I was in agitation in Kathmandu until Tuesday, after I had other work at home, I received many calls while returning home by bus on Wednesday. No one said anything when I said that I was on the bus and returning home," he says. I was shocked. It felt like a dream. But I reached home by controlling my mind.'
He said that he could not express the pain and the situation in which he arrived home. "I am related by blood, I have invested as much as I can, they have a son and a daughter, the daughter is married," he said. Ward president Neupane, who reached Kathmandu from Butwal on Wednesday to find out, said that he returned to Butwal on Wednesday as the body was delayed. He said that he returned from Kathmandu as the dead body was prepared to come from Kashmir to Delhi, from Delhi to Lucknow by ship and from Lucknow by car through Sunauli Naka.
