World Heritage Day is being celebrated on Friday, April 18, with the aim of spreading public awareness for the preservation of heritage.
This day has been celebrated since 1983 with the aim of protecting the world heritage sites under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Nepal's Kathmandu (Vasantpur, Patan and Bhaktapur Darbar area, Changunarayan, Pashupatinath, Buddh, Swayambhu), Lumbini and Chitwan and Everest National Parks are currently listed in the World Heritage Area.
On this occasion, the Department of Archeology has informed that a heritage walk is going to be held in Kathmandu this morning. Department, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Hanumadhoka Palace Conservation Program, Hanumandhoka Palace Care Base, Sri Swayambhu Conservation and Management Committee, Nepal Heritage Association and Bagmati Province Handicrafts Association are going to do the walk, said Sandeep Khanal, chief archeology officer of the department.
Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Prasad Pandey will also participate in the walk, it is said. He said that the walk which starts from Swayambhu's Bhuyankhel will end at Hanumandhoka Darbar area.
