A team of bird experts from Nepal and Malaysia has found a new species of bird - purple cuckoo - in Ilam Sukhani in eastern Nepal. The Nepal Ornithologists Association issued a press release on Wednesday morning and informed about this.

On March 25, a team including Nepalese ornithologist Rajendra Gurung found the bird in the Sukhani forest area at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level during bird watching.

Gurung was accompanied by Malaysian ornithologist Alexander John Eng Yang and Roger Robert Raja. Besides, Nepali ornithologist Anish Timilsina was also involved in that team. The team initially identified the bird as 'Violet Cuckoo' which appeared around 11 am. For further confirmation, they sent the photos and videos of the birds they took to the Nepal Bird Record Committee on Chait 28.

The record committee found out that the bird is new to Nepal after taking the opinion of domestic and foreign ornithologists. Tulsi Subedi has stated. The scientific name of the bird whose English name is Violet Cuckoo is Chrysoccus cynthorhynchus. Dr. Subedi says that the number of bird species found in Nepal has reached 899. According to the Nepal Ornithologists' Association, this bird belonging to the Cuculidae family of Cuculiformes class is found in Bhutan, Malaysia, Singapore, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. It has been found to breed in Bhutan, the Philippines and Singapore. There are two subspecies of this bird in the world C. X. Cynthorhynchus & C. X. Amethystinus is . A bird found in Nepal C. X. The Nepal Ornithologist Association has informed that there is Scienthorynchus.
