The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has decided to join the temporary contract and wage workers in the government service to the social security fund.

 

Labor, Employment and Social Security Minister Sharatsingh Bhandari made a ministerial decision on March 15 to transfer all types of workers to the social security fund, except those who get pension benefits from the government fund. To implement it, the decision has been published in the gazette on May 1.

According to the notice published in the gazette, the person who receives salary from the funds of the federal, state and local level accumulated funds, Nepal government, state government or local level wholly or partially owned institute, corporation, board, authority, establishment or any similar body will be listed as a contributor to the social security fund.

According to the ministry, at least 60 percent of the salary they received will be considered as basic salary, 20 percent of which will be deposited in the fund on behalf of the employer (government) and 11 percent of the workers.

The number of contract and wage workers receiving salary benefits from government funds is about 30,000 people. Ever since the implementation of the contribution-based social security fund, they have been demanding the government to include them.

Labor Minister Bhandari said the decision was made in accordance with the Prime Minister's commitment to include temporary and contractual employees in social security. Now, Nepalis working in any field will not be excluded from social security fund. Contributors and employers must contribute regularly. The government will work to implement it effectively, he said. fund has included formal, informal and foreign workers. It was brought about by the agreement of employers and workers. In the 6 years since the implementation of the fund, 21 lakh 51 thousand workers have joined.

According to the Social Security Fund, 20,000 employers contributing to the internal labor market have joined 574,000 workers in the fund.

fund will be provided with medical treatment up to 1 lakh, in the case of women contributors, maternity facilities equal to sixty percent of the minimum basic salary for up to 98 days, for infant care, an amount equal to one month's minimum basic salary per child will be provided. In case of accident, medical expenses of up to 7 lakhs, in case of permanent disability, 60% of the minimum basic salary, and in case of death of the contributor, his dependent family will get pension facility, funeral expenses of Rs.
