The Supreme Court has issued a short-term interim order not to implement the amendment made by the government to appoint officials and members of public bodies above the age of 65 years.
When the governor's appointment process was going forward, the Ministry of Finance amended the criteria and made a provision to appoint those who have attained the age of 65.
Through the 'Standards for the Appointment and Nomination of Officials and Members of Public Bodies Affiliated to the Ministry of Finance 2073' (Second Amendment), the way to be appointed as officers and members was opened for people who have passed the age of 65. The bench of Supreme Court Justice Nityanand Pandey has issued a short-term interim order on the writ filed by advocate Vishal Thapa against the said provision. Judge Pandey's bench on Tuesday called for the hearing of the interim order in the case on May 7.
Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel mentioned that a short-term interim order has been issued not to implement the said standard for the time being and the petitioner and the government will be called next Sunday to discuss the interim order. He informed that the bench has ordered not to implement the revised provision regarding the age limit of the standard.
There are 15 institutions including Rashtra Bank, Securities Board, and Insurance Authority as public bodies affiliated to the Ministry of Finance. For the time being, the government was criticized for revising the criteria targeting the appointment of the Governor of the National Bank, and a writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court.
