Speaker Devraj Ghimire has said that Nepal has got an opportunity to participate in the leadership formation and decision-making process of the Inter-Legislative Association this time.
After participating in the 150th Annual Meeting of the Inter-Legislative Association and the 4th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, the Speaker said that Nepal's presentation at the IPU was fruitful and held a press conference at Tribhuvan International Airport on Thursday after returning home.
The Nepalese delegation including Speaker Ghimire arrived in Nepal on Thursday evening. Speaker Ghimire said that Nepal's presence in the event in Tashkent, Uzbekistan was fruitful. Speaker Ghimire said that Nepal has got the opportunity to participate in the internal process of IPU by having Shakya in the Sustainable Development Committee and Gautam in the Health Committee.
Speaker Ghimire informed that Anjan Shakya, a member of the National Assembly, and Sovita Gautam, a member of the House of Representatives, were elected on behalf of Nepal in the Asia Pacific Regional Sustainable Development Committee. 'What is the IPU before this If we used to keep our opinions without understanding the inside, this year we have got a good opportunity to understand the inside, build its leadership and participate in the decision-making process,' said the speaker.
He also informed that there was a serious discussion on the issues of Parliament's initiative on social development and justice in the meeting of the Inter-Legislative Association. He said that discussions were held on contemporary world politics, its impact and social inequality.
'Contemporary world politics, its effects and the inequalities that are still happening in the society, there was a lot of discussion. On behalf of Nepal, I gave my opinion on behalf of this delegation in the general debate. In addition to the problems we are facing in that opinion, we have been able to do a good job in the legislative space for equality and have been able to include all religions and ethnicities in terms of inclusion," he said. "The conclusions reached by various committees, especially the problems arising in the Middle East, the recognition of two nations to end the war between Israel and Palestine, and the conclusion that the war there should be resolved peacefully."
He said that other countries were also informed and made aware of the effects of climate change during the visit.
