People's Movement Day is being celebrated today by organizing various programs to commemorate the restoration of democracy in Nepal.

On 26 Chait 2046, ending the 30-year-old Panchayat system, democracy was restored. The Panchayati system started by King Mahendra on 1st January 2017 ended on 26th Chait 2046. 

Under the leadership of the Nepali Congress, the United Left Front jointly protested and ended the 30-year-old panchayat system. Multi-party system of government has been restored in Nepal since 26th Chait 2046. The mass movement led by Congress leader Ganeshman Singh lasted for 50 days. 

The movement started on February 7, 2046 on the occasion of the establishment of democracy in Nepal on February 7, 2007. This movement started on Chait 26, 2046. The then King Birendra addressed the countrymen and restored the multi-party system on the 26th of Chait.

2046 Chait 26th, in commemoration of the removal of the ban on parties and the multi-party system, every year on Chait 26th, various programs are held and celebrated as People's Movement Day. Various programs are going to be organized on this occasion this year as well.
