Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel addressed the 58th session of the Commission on Population and Development held today at the United Nations headquarters in New York.  On that occasion, Minister Paudel said that in the last three decades, Nepal has achieved significant progress in maternal and child-related deaths.

Minister Paudel informed the session that Nepal has succeeded in increasing the efficiency and use of family planning tools, fertility and reducing the teenage birth rate and reducing child marriage. 'Nepal is committed to providing health facilities to every citizen by strengthening its health system,' Minister Paudel said, 'but it is not possible to do this alone.'

He emphasized that it is only possible through international cooperation and solidarity. Minister Paudel said that due to the limitation of the budget in the health sector and the per capita health expenditure being lower compared to the global rate, there is a lack of adequate infrastructure development and lack of health institutions in the rural areas, and therefore, access to health is difficult.

He said that Nepal's health sector is facing difficulties due to climate change. 'To address this problem, we give special emphasis to increase the development aid to Nepal,' Minister Paudel said. Private sector also  Minister Paudel emphasized that it is necessary to increase investment in the health sector.
