Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Devendra Dahal has alleged that public property is being damaged when the police allow vehicles to run against the standards by taking money. He also accused the police of not helping in the implementation of air pollution standards.
Minister Dahal said that the air quality has been poor due to pollution for the past few days and that he has not received the help of the Ministry of Home Affairs in controlling the smoke pollution caused by vehicles.
On Monday, Minister Dahal, while discussing with the representatives of the National Federation of Transport Professionals at Sinha Durbar, also promised to implement the standards set by the government to control air pollution.
'The government has set various standards. But the vehicles against the norms are still plying on the highway," said Minister Dahal, "somewhere the smoke-polluting vehicles are plying and elsewhere they are trampling the vehicles carrying more weight. It is the responsibility of the police to directly monitor and implement the standards. But the police are not getting help.'
Minister Dahal said that a task force has been formed to study the weighing of freight vehicles and the problem will be solved based on the report of the task force.
'Nepal police did not help us . We have to sit with the Ministry of Home Affairs on this issue as well. Because every time such a distortion happens, it does not benefit the country. Allowing overloaded vehicles to run by eating money, allowing vehicles to run against the standards is causing damage to public property . That's why I am trying to remove this distortion,' he said.
