Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met on Friday in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting between them took place after the sixth summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) was over.

The Prime Minister's Secretariat informed that bilateral interests and mutual interests were discussed during the meeting. After the diplomatic efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting between Oli and Modi took place as a sideline negotiation of BIMSTEC.

It has been 8 and a half months since Oli became the Prime Minister of Nepal. However, so far Oli has not received an invitation to visit India from Indian Prime Minister Modi. Earlier, Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Sher Bahadur Deuba got the opportunity to visit India. Oli's failure to visit India has been viewed as a coldness in relations with India.

Within three months of becoming the Prime Minister, Oli had a sideline meeting with Modi in New York last October. The sideline meeting was held during the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations. Then Oli and Modi met on the stage of BIMSTEC.
