Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is leaving for Bangkok on Tuesday for an official visit to Thailand and to participate in the sixth summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

At the friendly invitation of Thai Prime Minister Phethongthan Shinawatra, Nepal's Prime Minister is going to visit Thailand for the first time in history.

The tour team led by Prime Minister Oli will leave for Bangkok from Thai Airlines at 13:30 on the 19th of March. It is said that the Prime Minister's Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have completed all necessary preparations for the visit.

Prime Minister Oli's official visit to Thailand will begin on 20th of Chait. During the visit, bilateral talks will be held at the Prime Minister's level and six memorandums of understanding will be signed between the two and non-governmental sectors in terms of tourism and culture. After the bilateral talks, Prime Minister Oli will participate in a joint press briefing with Thai Prime Minister Sinawat. After the meeting with the King of Thailand, the one-day official visit will end.

'In the 65 years of diplomatic history between the two countries, this is a new beginning of the exchange of formal visits. This is a completely new beginning on our part', Prime Minister Oli said during his speech in Parliament on Monday.

During his stay in Thailand, Prime Minister Oli will meet and discuss with prominent businessmen there on the morning of Chait 21st and will address a program held at the Asian Institute of Technology in the afternoon of the same day. In the evening, Prime Minister Oli will participate in the formal dinner given to the leaders of the BIMSTEC Summit.

There is a program to attend and address the Bimstock Summit on March 22nd. After the summit, Prime Minister Oli plans to hold sideline talks with the leaders of the rest of the countries as much as possible. On the same day, Prime Minister Oli will participate in the signing ceremony of the Maritime Transport Cooperation Advance. On the same day in the evening, he will participate in the program to be held at the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok.

Arju Rana Deuba, Prime Minister's Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic Development Advisor Dr. Yuvraj Khatiwada, Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal Eknarayan Aryal, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amrit Bahadur Rai, Prime Minister's personal physician Dr. There will be 21 people including Divya Singh Shah, Chief Private Secretary to the Prime Minister Rajesh Bajracharya, security personnel and media personnel.  

During the preparation of the visit, two officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have gone to Bangkok in advance, while Nepali Ambassador to Thailand Dhan Bahadur Wali and four officials of the embassy have joined the visiting team without incurring any financial obligation to the Nepalese government. Representatives of Nepal's private sector will also join the visit.

Prime Minister Oli, during the preparation and consultation of the visit, on Sunday, former Prime Minister and  Consultations were held with former foreign ministers. In the discussion, it was suggested to use tourism for the maximum benefit of the country in areas including economic development, connectivity, energy, tourism and cultural exchange of Nepal. The team led by the Prime Minister will return to the country on March 23.
