Last Saturday, three of the 10 Bhutanese who were deported from America and came to Bhutan were arrested in Nepal. They are currently being investigated by the Immigration Department.

However, the rest of the 7 Bhutanese people who were deported with them are not safe. They were also left by Bhutan at Phuncholing-Jaigaon on the Bhutan-India border. No one knows where they went from Jaigaon.

They are believed to be in India. It is assumed that they are sheltering relatives in Siliguri or Panitanki area.

The chief district officer of Jhapa, Gopal Adhikari, said that the police are investigating the three people who were arrested, but there is no information about the other seven people who were deported along with them. The official said, 'We have no information about whether the 7 people have come or not, we have arrested those who entered Nepal.'

International human rights organizations have accused the US and Bhutanese authorities of not providing legal status to the exiled Bhutanese refugees and the authorities of Nepal and India have also accused them of not providing proper human rights protection. Rights activists demand to ensure the safety of refugees.

"The deported Bhutanese brothers are now homeless," rights activist Dil Bhutani said, "The protection of human rights is their first priority." "Where and in what condition the seven Bhutanese are, it is necessary to search for humanity," he said.
