The royalist movement will now be led by Jagman Gurung, former vice-chancellor of Nepal Pragya Pratishthan. Navraj Subedi, coordinator of the United People's Movement Committee, said that Gurung would lead the movement in his absence.
Mentioning that the government has detained him, Subedi has issued a press statement on Sunday and said, 'Since the government has detained me, in my absence, the United People's Movement will be led by Nepal sage Jagman Gurung . I call upon all the related parties and organizations to support the movement.'
Under the leadership of businessman Durga Prasain, the Joint People's Movement Committee was formed on Chait 4 under the leadership of RPP leader Navraj Subedi, the former president of Rashtriya Panchayat. Subedi also announced Prasai as the commander of the Jan Andolan Committee.
On Friday, the Royalists' demonstration turned violent after Prasai started a riot. During the demonstration, 2 people died including a journalist. Besides, dozens of vehicles were set on fire and personal and government properties were also set on fire.
After that, the police arrested dozens of people, including RPP Senior Vice President Ravindra Mishra and General Minister Dhawal Shamsher Rana. Coordinator Subedi has been banned from meeting by the government. Prasai is absconding.
