Every year on Chaitra Krishna Aunsi Tithi, the traditional horse-riding festival is celebrated in Kathmandu Valley with various programs. According to the legend, Gurumapa, a demon living in a tree in the east-south direction of Tundikhel, was eating the children of the city, but the affected locals killed it by various means, but the fear of its ghost waking up again and harming the children remained. For this reason, every year on the day of Chaitra Krishna Aunsi, the spirit of Gurumapa is trampled on by a horse. Also, food is also given to Gurumapa at the foot of the same tree tonight so that there is no danger to any children in the city.
It is said that even today in Lalitpur, there is a tradition of celebrating a horse race by running a young horse.
