Rai's opinion on the lack of medical staff at the embassy Could not be checked immediately: Nepali Embassy in Malaysia

The Nepali Embassy in Malaysia has expressed its grief that 38-year-old Rajan Rai from Siraha died while being rescued. The embassy has also expressed its commitment to protect and rescue Nepali workers in Malaysia. Rai's body will arrive in Kathmandu on Friday.

Rai, who was taken to the Nepalese embassy on 4th of Chait for treatment and rescue, died in the shelter on 6th of Chait. The embassy did not immediately take Rai who was seriously ill to the hospital for treatment. After news and editorials were published in Kantipur about this, the embassy made public its views on the matter.

The embassy said that when a relative contacted the Nepalese embassy at 5 pm on March 4th, Rai was in normal health and asked for help to return home.

'Rai came to the embassy without his passport. During the initial inquiry, he only informed that he had a problem with his legs and did not provide the hospital documents that he had to the embassy staff, and since there was no health worker at the embassy, it was not possible to arrange for an immediate health check-up,'  In a statement released by the embassy on Thursday, it is mentioned that, "Although there are health problems, the repatriation process will take a few more days, so he and his relatives were advised to check their health at a nearby clinic." The procedure was advanced even for the appointment to get the check out memo at the immigration department. According to the embassy, arrangements were made for Bekharchi Rai to stay in a nearby hostel after not being contacted. Before the repatriation process, the Malaysian Immigration Department was asked on March 5 to find out his legal or illegal status in Malaysia. On the same day, information was received from the Immigration Department that his work permit had expired. A free one-way travel permit (travel document) was issued by the embassy on March 5," the statement said, "Foreign citizens staying illegally in Malaysia must pay the fine for the time of illegal stay to the Immigration Department and obtain a checkout memo before returning home. At the request of the embassy, the immigration department issues a checkout memo within 14 working days of appearing in the immigration department by giving time to meet as soon as possible in case of sensitive cases.
