A panchayat leader has been jailed in the gang rape and suspicious death of 17-year-old girl Rinku Sada of Navrajpur rural municipality-1 Bhagwatipur in Siraha. Ward member Nathuni Sah has been sent to jail on Tuesday by Siraha District Court.

Shrestedar Niraj Pokharel informed that the bench of Chief Judge Shri Prakash Upreti of Siraha District Court has ordered to send Shah to jail. Similarly, the court has demanded bail at the rate of one and a half lakh each from six other people who play a role in the panchayat.

According to Pokharel, a bail of Rs 150,000 has been demanded from 6 people including two relatives of local Ramkripal Mandal, Vindeshwar Sah, Ramdev Sada, Kari Sada and two minors accused of kidnapping and rape. The court has released the main accused of kidnapping and rape to the custody of the family.

Similarly, Shrestedar Pokharel informed that local Ramvinod Mandal and Kamlesh Das have been ordered to be released on normal dates. In this incident, ten people including two minors accused of kidnapping and rape and 8 people who organized a panchayat to settle the incident in the village are still absconding.

According to the law, the Sirha District Court will issue a deadline in their name . Rinku was raped by three locals while going to the field near her house to defecate on the evening of January 27. She came home only at 4 o'clock the next morning with her clothes torn and mud on her body.

When her mother inquired after seeing her holding her stomach and crying, she told that she was raped. She said that while she was defecating, the accused suddenly came and offered to have physical contact and when she refused, they took turns engaging in sexual intercourse.

After there was a rumor in the village, instead of sending the victim to the police, a panchayat was held in the village to settle the matter. The panchayat, which was attended by about 30 locals, gave a decision that the accused should pay Rs 140,000 and the victim should not be allowed to go to the police.

However, the panchayat leader tried to share the amount given by the accused among themselves, and there was a dispute between the accused to pay the money. Due to the dispute, the incident became more complicated and while the perpetrators were constantly threatening to reconcile, Rinku was found dead in her house on the evening of January 30th.

However, the local police office, Lahan, filed a case of abetment of suicide against only one of the main accused of kidnapping and rape in this incident. After the news about the incident came, the police filed a supplementary complaint against 8 people on four charges of hostage-taking, extortion, settlement of transactions and abetment of suicide.
