What was discussed between the top leaders of the three major parties?

The meeting of the ruling and main opposition parties has been held at the Prime Minister's Office at Singha Durbar. A meeting was held between Congress, UML and Maoists to finalize the rest of the peace process.

Prime Minister and UML President KP Sharma Oli, Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and the main opposition party Maoist President Pushpa Kamal Dahal participated in the meeting. Similarly, the meeting was attended by Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar, Prime Minister Oli's Human Rights and Transitional Justice Adviser Agni Kharel, Maoist Deputy Secretary General Shakti Basnet and expert Khimlal Devkota. In the meeting, there was a discussion about the formation of a Commission of Inquiry on Disappeared Persons and a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Prime Minister Oli's Human Rights and Transitional Justice Adviser Agni Kharel informed. Informing about the discussion in the

meeting, Kharel said, 'Today's discussion was related to the issue of forming two commissions related to transitional justice. Some time ago, the report prepared by the search committee formed to form the two commissions was also discussed. It was agreed between the parties to move forward. The Prime Minister consulted with the leaders of both parties to proceed with the process of forming a recommendation committee (search committee) for the appointment of the chairman and members of both commissions in accordance with sub-section 3 of section 3 of the Commission for Inquiry into Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act-2071. According to the same consultation, the recommendation committee formation process will proceed.'

The recommendation committee formed under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice Omprakash Mishra failed to name the names of these two commissions even after a two-month long race. After the parties pressed to appoint their recommended persons in both commissions, Mishra said that he failed to select the name of the leadership committee and asked the government to start the process again .

The five-member committee led by Mishra chose eight names for the chairman and 32 members in the selection stage from among the 156 candidates who applied. Mishra took leave from the committee without a recommendation after the party interfered in the right of the committee to choose from among them.
