MPs' objection to demolition of Dalit's house to perform Maha Yagya

The parliamentarians have drawn the attention of the government to take action against the culprits in the incidents of killing, violence and discrimination against the Dalit community. Speaking at Thursday's meeting of the House of Representatives, the MPs accused one after another of the government and Home Minister Ramesh Ukhtar not taking any action when there were incidents of violence against the Dalit community.

They said has shamed the Nepali society when the house of a Dalit was demolished with the involvement of the village head. In the

meeting, Joint Minister of Nepali Congress Jeevan Pariyar objected to the eviction of the Dom community living there in the name of performing Vishnu Mahayagna in Ward No. 5 of Aurhi Rural Municipality of Siraha.

"I strongly condemn the actions of other rural municipality president Shivji Yadav and village president Dilip Yadav of the Janmaat Party for harassing the people of the Dom community," he said.

MP Amresh Kumar Singh demanded an immediate stop to the incidents of murder, harassment and discrimination against women and the Dalit community and to take action against the culprits. MP Singh drew the attention of the government saying that incidents of murder and violence have increased across the country. He said that women and dalits are being brutalized serially, why is this happening during this government? He also asked a question. Isn't the state government's failure to speak against the oppression of Dalits in Madhesh state a division of power? He also expressed his doubts.

CPN-UML Member of Parliament (MP) MP Jayakan Thapalia has accused Home Minister Ramesh Lakhtar of not taking any steps to prevent incidents against Dalits. In the meeting, MP Thapalia asked the Home Minister through the Speaker, 'Isn't the Home Minister interested in such incidents? Are you an anti-Dalit home minister? How can federal democracy be strengthened in this way?'

She also demanded the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee. Another MP, Ranendra Barali, demanded that the culprits be brought to justice, saying that the Dalit community is being abused. He said, 'The excesses against Dalits have become a bigger mountain than Mount Everest. Where do Dalits go to seek justice?'

MPs Manish Jha, Abdul Khan, Ashok Kumar Chaudhary and Prabhu Hazara also protested against the incident in Siraha and demanded that the culprits be brought to justice. 

In connection with Shivji Yadav, village head of Deepak Malik Dome of Aurhi-5, Siraha, because Dalits are not allowed to live around the mandap of the Maha Yagya, the house was demolished using a bulldozer, and the soil of the house where the house stood was thrown away because the land where the Dalits were living would be impure. But till Thursday, no action has been taken against the culprits. The police have not even arrested them.
