Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel has put forward a proposal to develop a system of deducting two percent of the salary of salary earners from the state fund and the private sector and depositing it into the health insurance fund.
Minister Paudel made the proposal while answering the questions asked by MPs during the discussion on the proposal of urgent public importance related to health insurance at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
Minister Paudel said that it is necessary to develop a system where everyone from the president to office assistants contributes two percent of their salary to the health insurance fund. He said that it is necessary to implement progressive premium based on the economic status of citizens. He said that the government should provide healthcare services by paying the premiums of citizens who are below the poverty line.
'We have made a policy in the Insurance Act . If I join the insurance, I will pay Rs 3500 . If there is an arrangement to contribute two percent of my salary to insurance, I have to pay 17,000 . Let's develop a system in which everyone from the president to office assistants and those who earn salaries in the organized and private sectors contribute to the insurance system . Let's develop a situation where salary earners contribute to the insurance fund,' Minister Paudel said, 'Then who can pay the premium? That doesn't mean putting extra . His financial status has been made by paying taxes . This is a very small amount . So let's implement progressive premium . So that citizens who can contribute can contribute through premiums.'
Minister Paudel said that the government should make arrangements to provide health services by paying the premiums of the citizens who are below the poverty line and cannot pay the premium amount. "There are 6.6 million households in Nepal, let's not leave anyone out of insurance," he said. He said that all citizens should be included in compulsory health insurance.
