Communications and Information Technology Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that Nepal has not accepted dual citizenship due to emotion.
He said this while replying to the suggestions made by the parliamentarians during the discussion on 'Bill to amend some Nepal Acts related to good governance promotion and public service delivery-2081' in the House of Representatives on Monday.
He said that non-resident Nepalis are given preferential citizenship, different from Nepali citizens.
He says that only non-residential Nepalese people who do not want to give up their Nepali citizenship are given non-residential Nepali citizenship.
He said, "The state of Nepal has not yet accepted the provision of dual citizenship without being immersed in emotion. Because of that, if we don't understand why we have to say non-resident citizenship person? This is the case with all the honorable people who are sitting here, the citizenship they have received is not general like the one we have received. Since they are different from that, non-resident citizenship has been granted to them as a concession. For that reason, non-resident citizenship has been given to those people who are foreign citizens of Nepali origin and have settled there, who have said that they will not renounce our citizenship .'
Communications Minister Gurung said that arrangements have been made to grant visa concessions for two years to Nepali citizens of Nepali origin living abroad.
