UML has decided that any attempt to reject the achievements of the Constituent Assembly, create negative comments, and turn the country back in an undemocratic direction is not acceptable.
Reviewing the street demonstration of former king Gyanendra Shah, UML dismissed the debate about returning to monarchy as harmful. The decision passed by the UML secretariat meeting said, "The NCPA (UML) calls upon the general public and especially the young generation to take seriously the importance of democracy, freedom, and human rights."
UML President and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli informed about why royalists are showing enthusiasm in the meeting and called this situation temporary.
'Nepal has achieved significant progress in a short time after the establishment of democracy. Despite the armed conflict, long transition period, and natural calamities such as earthquakes, Nepal has made significant progress in the social sector, people's living standards, physical infrastructure, and international relations,'' states the resolution passed by UML.
'After the monarchy repeatedly attacks the rights of the people and tends towards totalitarianism, the Federal Democratic Republic was established by the Constituent Assembly with the conclusion that monarchy and democracy cannot go together.'
UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali said that any attempt to turn the country backwards cannot be successful and UML is determined to protect its achievements. He said, 'Our party has moved forward with a commitment to stand firmly in defense of the Constitution of Nepal and its institutionalized federal democratic republic, inclusive system, and social justice.'
