The historic first central convention of the National Democratic Handicapped Association, a sister organization of the Nepali Congress, will be held on 8th and 9th of Chaitra. In a press conference held on Sunday to inform about the convention, coordinator of the publicity committee, Madhav Prasad Chamlagai, said that preparations for the convention have reached the final stage.

He said that more than 1,000 representatives from 77 districts will participate in the convention. "Until now, 160 federal constituencies of 6 provinces, 72 districts, 320 provincial assemblies and most of the local level sessions have been completed enthusiastically," he said.

Congress Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba will inaugurate the programme. He said that people with physical disability, visual disability, hearing disability, speech disability, hearing disability, psychosocial disability, hemophilia, autism, intellectual disability and multiple disabilities and 4 types of classification based on severity such as total disability, severe disability, moderate and general disability will participate in the conference. According to the constitution of the association, the convention will elect a working committee of 51 people.

According to the constitution, a total of 39 people will be elected, consisting of one president, two vice presidents (women/open), two general ministers, 10 open members including 3 women, 10 people from different types of disabilities, 14 people from each province, women and two open people.

To complete the convention, the Congress formed a three-member steering committee under the coordination of central member Madhu Acharya and consisting of central members Madankrishna Shrestha and Saraswati Bajimay.
