Speaker Devraj Ghimire has said that effective cooperation with China is necessary for the sustainable development of Nepal. Speaker Ghimire expressed this opinion at the ``Kashtamandap Dialogue'' on Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Nepal China cooperation organized by the Foundation for Peace, Development and Socialism in Kathmandu on Saturday.
Speaker Ghimire also said that China's investment potential in Nepal should be identified correctly and priority should be given to new projects under BRI.
'Nepal-China relations are not only limited to commercial or financial cooperation, they can also contribute significantly in the fields of cultural, educational and technological transfer,' Speaker Ghimire said, 'For the sustainable development of Nepal, it is necessary to make the cooperation with China more effective and invest more in areas of mutual interest . New projects under BRI should be prioritized by correctly identifying the investment opportunities in Nepal.'
Speaker Ghimire also said that Nepal firmly adheres to the One China principle and that Nepal's commitment to it has remained strong. He said that cooperation between Nepal and China has been strengthened through BRI.
Ghimire also said that China is an important partner for the development of Nepal. China has been a reliable and important development partner of Nepal for a long time. The government of Nepal and the people of Nepal are grateful for the support and cooperation in the development of Nepal on behalf of the Chinese government and the people," he said. "The historical relationship between Nepal and China is based on mutual trust, understanding and friendly cooperation.
Nepal is going to be upgraded from the list of underdeveloped countries within 2026. Speaker Ghimire said that he expects significant support from China for smooth upgrading and its sustainability.
Pointing out that Nepal can be established as a 'transit hub' by using its geographical location, the Speaker stressed that for this, physical infrastructure development, roads, railways, energy, information technology and business cooperation should be promoted between the two countries.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations seven decades ago, the friendly relations between Nepal and China have been continuously developing and strengthening, the speaker said. Our policy is guided by the five principles of peaceful co-existence i.e. Panchsheel. We have always been ready to strengthen and deepen the harmonious relationship between the two countries," he said.
