Speaking at the emergency meeting of the House of Representatives today, the parliamentarians are of the opinion that monarchy cannot be an alternative to democracy. The parliamentarians have also drawn the attention of the government to the activities that are contrary to the existing constitution.
Parliamentarian Mahesh Kumar Bertaula mentioned that it is the duty of every citizen to follow the constitution and said that anti-constitutional activities have been going on in the society for a few days under the instructions and instigation of former king Gyanendra Shah. He alleged that the former king himself was inciting him to do these things. Parliamentarian Bertaula said that monarchy cannot be an alternative to democracy.
Member of Parliament Arjun Narsingh KC pointed out that since the previous agreement between the government and the Nepal Teachers' Federation could not be implemented, the federation is again in the process of agitation and drew the attention of the government through the parliament to try to negotiate and reach an agreement. He said that the national identity card should not be made compulsory to receive social security allowance. MP KC said that if it is made compulsory, there will be problems for senior citizens, disabled etc.
