The Ambassador of the European Union to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, had a courtesy meeting with the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka.

In the meeting held today at the Ministry of Energy in Singhdarbar, various issues of the European Union's cooperation in the energy, water resources and irrigation sectors of Nepal were discussed. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1974, the European Union has been supporting Nepal as a partner for sustainable development. In the

meeting, Energy Minister Khadka thanked the European Union for the development of Nepal's energy, water resources and tourism sectors, according to the Secretariat of Energy Minister Khadka. He expressed his gratitude for the cooperation in the fields of clean energy, climate change and economic stability in the future.

Minister Khadka said that since the government has set a target of producing 28,500 megawatts of electricity by 2035, he expected significant support and assistance from donor agencies to achieve this target. He said that the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Bill has been submitted to the Parliament and will be passed soon.

Minister Khadka expressed his gratitude for the European Union being the main partner in Nepal's energy sector and the EU's support in renewable energy access, rural electrification and reducing the impact of climate change.  At the

meeting, Ambassador Lorenzo said that the European Union is committed to further cooperation for the development of Nepal in the fields of climate change and alternative energy. She also praised Nepal's energy cooperation with neighboring countries.

Ambassador Lorenzo said that the EU will provide additional loans and grants for the development of Nepal's energy sector. Ambassador Lorenzo said that the EU is willing to invest in Upper Arun and Dudhkoshi reservoir projects. In the meeting, the opening of the Chilime-Trishuli transmission line, built with EU investment, was also discussed. According to Minister Khadka's Secretariat, Ministry of Energy Secretary Suresh Acharya, Ministry's senior energy expert Praval Adhikari, Ministry's Joint Secretary Jeevach Mandal and others participated in the

meeting.
