The declaration passed by the international conference in Beijing in 1995 has been reviewed every five years . On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Conference, this year it will be reviewed from March 10 to 25. In this review, Nepal is also going to submit a report on its behalf.
National Network for Beijing Review Nepal (NNBN) and Women, Law and Development Forum (FWD) have prepared the report on behalf of civil society under the leadership of civil society.
divided into four parts, 12 agendas are covered in the report. The report covers the progress and recommendations made in the last five years in the fields of women and education, women and economy, women's human rights, women and poverty, women and health, power structure in decision-making process, women and communication, women and environment, institutional structure for women's advancement, women and armed conflict, violence against women and girl child concerns. In the previous discussion on the
report, former minister Shashi Shrestha said that it would be more powerful if the policy makers at the political level were kept while preparing the report. "It is better to limit the discussions and debates to Nepal," she said, "We have to solve our problems." It is better to find a political solution within the country.' In the
program, Senior Advocate and Chairperson of the NGO Network Professor Dr. Shashi Adhikari said that the report to be presented on behalf of the civil society covers many things. He said that since the constitution discriminates against women, there is a problem in amending the law.
United Nations representative Patricia Fernandez said that Nepal has made significant progress against women's violence. He said that the report to be submitted to the Beijing+30 review will contribute significantly to women's empowerment. Mentioning that there are still opportunities and challenges in the field of women's rights in Nepal, Fernandez said, 'The United Nations will work together in the field of women.'
Bandana Rana, a member of the Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (SID), said that the fight against sexism and violence has gone through many stages. He says that the main problem at present is the low participation of women in decision-making levels. Rana emphasized that economic empowerment based on human rights is the need of the day.
Every five years, the United Nations organizes a review program. This review is the 69th session . At the event, senior advocate Meera Dhungana said that the Beijing+30 review will provide an opportunity to engage with gender equality advocates and bring the problems of the still disadvantaged people to the attention of the government and society.
