Rupesh Mandal, the main accused in the gang rape and suspicious death of Rinkukumari Sada of Navrajpur in Siraha, has been arrested. Police said that Mandal was arrested some time ago. He was arrested from Sirha Municipality-17 Dasgaja area.
He was absconding after the incident and was arrested only a short time ago, according to Madhesh Province police sources. The police are preparing to officially release him soon.
Rinku, who went out to defecate on the night of last January 27, was gang-raped by three local youths. She reached home crying the next morning. However, an attempt was made to resolve the incident in the village by holding a Panchayat meeting on the 29th and 30th with the involvement of the local people including ward members.
The panchayat decided to pay a fine of 140,000 from the rapist and not to let the victim go to the police. However, the victim girl was found hanging dead in her house on the evening of 30th, amid threats from the perpetrators after the panchayat failed to meet.
After the news about this incident, the police is investigating after taking a complaint against three people involved in rape and 5 people who were involved in panchayati. Three people are under police custody during the investigation.
