We are preparing to increase the salaries of doctors and nurses: Health Minister Paudel

Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel has said that the government is working to pay doctors and nurses according to the provisions of the Labor Act.

He said this while addressing a program organized on the occasion of the 75th Foundation Day of Nepal Doctors Association in Kathmandu on Tuesday. He said that he has taken principled approval from the Council of Ministers to hire 500 doctors from the Public Service Commission. 

He said that the government is moving to increase the salaries of doctors and nurses in the government as well as in the private sector. He said that the government is moving forward to strictly implement the minimum wages set by the Labor Act. He expressed his belief that if only the situation of doctors can be created for their daily living, the number of manpower going abroad will decrease. He said that the government is taking legal measures to create a situation where doctors can work without pressure. 

He said, 'Doctors cannot work under pressure. We accept that the working environment for him has not been fully created. In order to create an environment for him to work, we are taking legal action accordingly. We are trying to work in such a way that it should be paid more than the civil service in order to recognize it in terms of service facilities.'

Minister Paudel said that Nepali medical education has become reliable in the world. He claimed that the production of doctors is increasing compared to the past. He said that there have been many improvements in Nepal's health sector compared to the past. He said that even though the necessary doctors are produced, the lack of active human resources within Nepal is a big challenge. He said that it is necessary to be serious about how to create a situation for doctors to stay in Nepal.
