Paying workers less than the minimum is punishable: Prime Minister Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that it will be punishable if workers are found to be employed by paying less than the minimum wage under any pretext.

Addressing the 78th anniversary ceremony of the Nepali Trade Union Movement organized by the Nepal Trade Union Federation (Gifant) today, Prime Minister Oli mentioned that he had heard that even nurses are not getting the minimum wage and said that under any pretext, workers cannot be employed by paying less than the minimum wage.

'During the movement for system change, our friends were killed, but our objectives were not killed. We went to jail, but our goals were not jailed," said Prime Minister Oli, who is also the president of UML. "Now we have to proceed according to the spirit of change. We should be able to bring the government, employers and workers to a 'win win' situation through dialogue according to international norms. The government should stay neutral and come to a fair conclusion.'
