Pradeep Yadav, Water Minister of the Government of Nepal and CR Patil, Minister of Water Power of the Government of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the development of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (waste) sector on Monday.
Ramkumar Shrestha, Director General of Water Supply and Sewerage Management Department, informed that Minister Yadav on behalf of the Government of Nepal and Minister of Water Power CR Patil on behalf of the Government of India signed an important memorandum of understanding on the development of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene sector during a special program organized in the capital of India, New Delhi. An agreement has been signed between India and Nepal to expand cooperation in the fields of drinking water, sanitation and waste management. The goal of the agreement is to develop drinking water sources, access to clean water, promote sanitation, waste management and strengthen the efforts of the Nepalese government, said Shrestha.
The aim is to promote friendly cooperation between India and Nepal and strengthen inter-governmental cooperation in the field of sanitation, accepting the efforts and concerns of the Nepalese government regarding water security, ensuring access to safe drinking water in Nepal and enabling people's livelihood in a safe environment . The
agreement mentions underground water management, technology and information exchange, rainwater collection and measurement, technology sharing, and technology and training support to the government of Nepal. Nepal's Ambassador to India Shankar Prasad Sharma, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, Ashok Meena, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Water Power of the Government of India, Devshree Murkhaji, Surendra Thapa, Deputy Head of the Nepali Embassy, Pramiladevi Shakya Bajracharya, Secretary of the Water Supply Ministry, Meena Shrestha, Joint Secretary, Ram Kumar Shrestha, Director General of the Water Supply and Sewerage Management Department and others are participating in the
program.
