Fire in tea industry, loss of crores

A fire broke out in the Jasbire tea industry located in Ilam-4 on Tuesday night. The fire also damaged the tea prepared for export along with the industrial equipment.

According to Subba, those who come to the industry used to buy tea for 2000 to 12000 rupees per kilogram, after delivering it to Kathmandu, it was sold for 24 thousand rupees, the price of the same tea in China is 100,000 Nepalese rupees and the tea called Mother Olang was sold for 14 dollars per 50 grams in America. The tea produced by the industry was exported abroad under brands like Sunkesari, Redpanda, Kothidanda Beauty.

Jasbire tea industry was run by Grishma and his brother Sharad. Sharad was injured while fighting the fire. He has been sent to Kirtipur Hospital in Kathmandu for treatment. Sharad is known as Nepal's experienced and skilled tea technician. He was awarded as Nepal's 'Best Tea Maker' in the 'Nepal Tea Challenge-2024' held in Kathmandu a few months ago. Jasbire Udyog used to buy tea leaves from more than three hundred farmers and process them. 

Jasbire tea industry is 7 km away from the headquarters. As soon as the fire started, the fire brigade was called to put out the fire. Although two fire engines were dispatched from Ilam and Deumai municipalities, they arrived late due to the narrow road, said Grishma. "There was a lot of damage because the fire could not be controlled immediately," he said. According to him, the fire that started at 9 pm was brought under control only at 3 am.
