The Mahashivratri festival, named after the night in which Lord Shiva was born, is being celebrated today in temples across the country with ritualistic worship, worship and darshan.

On this day, people ask for firewood in every house, chowk and monastery and make prasad in the same fire along with bhajankirtan and take it.
Four types of worship at Pashupatinath at four hours today
On this day, which is a national cultural festival, in addition to four types of worship at Pashupatinath at four hours of the night, Mahadeep, Akhanddeep, Lakshyabatti and Deepotsav are offered as well as lakhs of Belpatra. Classical dances are performed in music ashrams of Kailashkut and Kirateswar. Pilgrims from different parts of the country and neighboring India visit the Pashupatinath temple today to have a darshan of Lord Shri Mahadev and fill the fair of the Mahashivratri festival.
Prof. Dr. Devmani Bhattarai, a theologian and a member of the Nepal Panchang Adjudicatory Development Committee, says that there is a special importance of Prahar Puja in Mahashivratri. Prahar Puja starts at Pashupatinath temple from around 6 pm today. The first hour of puja ends at around half past nine.
At around nine o'clock, the second Prahar Puja begins. It ends around 12:30. Around 12 o'clock, the third hour of worship begins. It ends around 3:30 p.m. The fourth Prahar Puja starts around three o'clock and ends around six o'clock in the morning. Prahar Pooja is performed by chanting, meditation, worship, aghryadan, recitation, Rudrabhishek etc.
Prahar Puja is of special importance in Mahashivratri, so this Puja should be done properly. Char Prahar Pooja is being performed in many temples across the country which have been established with great dignity. There is a religious belief that Ashutosh Lord Shiva will be happy with this.
This prahar pooja is also a tradition of performing four prahar pooja in temples like Rudreshwar Mahadev Temple in Chavhil Gangahiti, Gaurighat, Gokarneshwar Mahadev Temple, Nageshwar, Doleshwar.
Meanwhile, member secretary of Pashupati Area Development Fund, Dr. Milan Kumar Thapa, said that special arrangements have been made for the convenience of the devotees who come to the fair in Pashupati area this year. Since seven years ago, narcotics such as ganja, bhang, dhaturo have been banned in Pashupati area.
This year too, it has been continued. He said that if such substances are found to be consumed or sold, the police will catch them and take legal action. Around five thousand security personnel have been deployed in Pashupati area today to maintain peace and security without allowing the sale of prohibited cheese seeds.
On the occasion of Mahashivratri, the four gates of Pashupatinath have been opened since two o'clock in the morning on Wednesday. This year, more than one million pilgrims can visit Pashupati on the day of Mahashivratri only.
How many devotees have reached Pashupati area without waiting in line and come back after visiting Gajur. Prof. Dr. Ramachandra Gautam, a theologian, says that there is a scientific proof that even if you visit the Pashupatinath temple, you will get results.
Special attention has been paid to the decoration of the temple premises on this year's Mahashivratri. Pashupati area has been made shimmering around. In the evening, the Pashupati area is decorated with flowers and lights to make it attractive. The temple has been decorated by bringing flower garlands from abroad including Nepal.
