During the examination of 421 people, 234 people had problems in their eyes, 28 needed surgery
During the eye examination of 421 people in Vikat Saipal rural municipality of Bajhang, problems were found in 234 people. The eye disease was detected during the examination conducted in coordination with Simkhet Eye Treatment Center of Geta Eye Hospital and Saipal Rural Municipality.
Among those examined, 26 people had cataracts and two people had eye problems. The team of health workers said that they should be operated on. The team reached every ward of Saipal and conducted eye tests of the locals. Janak Kumar Bista, a health worker involved in the team, informed that free glasses were distributed to 176 of those tested.
Sagun Tamang, the head of Simkhet Eye Treatment Center, said that Saipal residents have more eye-related problems than other municipalities in the district. "Even though many people have cataract problems, 26 people need immediate surgery," she said. She said that there is a problem of flesh growing in the eyes of old people.
You have to walk for four days from Saipal to the headquarters of Chainpur Aujau. Locals say that there is no hospital with facilities for eye surgery in Bajhang, so they have to go to Dhangadhi and they are unable to get treatment due to lack of funds. I can't even walk outside the house by myself. If I want to go to Chainpur, I need a person to carry me," said 78-year-old Rammati Bohra of Saipal-3 Kanda, who is suffering from blindness due to cataracts. "We cannot afford to go to Chainpur. How to raise eyes after reaching Dhangadhi?' She said that it will cost up to one lakh for the person who carries it to Chainpur.
80-year-old Virjite Bohra of Saipal-5 Balaudi said that even though the health workers told him that his eyesight would return after treatment, he had to live in the dark because he could not raise the expenses. What is the treatment?' He said, 'I wish I could see again. But what to do just by thinking?'
Even before this, the problem of blindness was widespread among the locals of Saipal. On August 24, 2077, after the news was published in Kantipur under the title "Saipal's dark world" that more than 300 people had eye problems, in October of the same year, Tilganga eye hospital provided free of charge in the city center. A surgery camp was conducted.
In that camp, 511 people including 38 women and 23 men received eye treatment services. 63 people underwent cataract surgery. Glasses were distributed to 380 people. After that camp, for 14 years, those who were blind in both eyes also got their lost sight.
Even though they are trying to conduct a camp with surgery in Saipal again, the rural municipality has said that it has not been successful. "Since it is not possible to take so many people outside for treatment, we are taking the initiative of running the camp in the municipality," said Manvir Bohra, chairman of the rural municipality. Despite requesting the union government several times, the demand has not been addressed.
Even though he requested the eye hospital to conduct a surgery camp, he said that no one would come because he had to walk for more than two days to reach the center of the municipality. told.
