Odisha's KIIT fired 2 security guards for beating up Nepali students

The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the Indian state of Odisha, has dismissed the security personnel who beat Nepali students.

After the suspicious death of a Nepali student studying in the university, the Nepali students who protested demanding a fair investigation were abused and beaten by the campus administration and security personnel. After Prakriti Lamsal, who was studying in B-Tech third year, was found dead in the hostel on Sunday evening, there was repression when Nepali students demanded investigation and justice.

On Tuesday, the university issued a follow-up notice about the incident and informed that two security guards have been dismissed. Similarly, two senior officials of the hostel and one administration officer have also been dismissed pending an investigation into the incident, according to the university.

Odisha's KIIT fired 2 security guards for beating up Nepali students has also stated that the university is now taking initiatives to return the students. Similarly, the university has always given priority to the safety of Nepali students. Similarly, the university has also apologized for the insulting remarks made by the staff towards Nepali students.

According to Nepali students, Indian student Adhik Srivastava repeatedly abused Lamsal. They say that Lamsal committed suicide after becoming unbearable. Earlier, Lamsal had also filed a complaint against Srivastava in the university administration saying that she had been abused. However, the Nepali students say that the university administration did not listen to the complaint.

The Nepali students said that the KIIT administration repressed the students by using security guards and bouncers, demanding investigation and action against the misbehaving Indian students.

After the students' protest escalated, the university administration issued a notice to all Nepali students to leave the hostel immediately. In the notice issued by the registrar of KIIT, Nepali students have been asked to leave the hostel immediately until further notice.

After the news of the expulsion of Nepali students came out, there was pressure on the university administration to recall them. After the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi communicated directly with the university through diplomatic channels, the college administration has issued a notice to the students to return to the hostel.
